NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) – Four New Iberia residents have been arrested in connection with an alleged automobile insurance fraud scheme in Iberia Parish, authorities said.

Rayshonte Oppenheimer, 29, Briannie Butler, 32, Passion Keal, 24 and Quandalyn Bernard, 33, all of New Iberia, are each charged with felony automobile insurance fraud following an investigation by the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud / Auto Theft Unit.

The investigation began after a referral from Timber Creek Insurance Services and the Louisiana Department of Insurance-Fraud Division alleging fraudulent insurance claims.

Investigators said the suspects allegedly made false statements during the insurance claims process following a 2025 crash involving a Pelican Waste & Debris garbage truck. Had the claims been successful, the suspects could have collected approximately $4 million, officials said.

Between April 30-May 1, 2026, investigators obtained arrest warrants for all four suspects. The suspects were later apprehended or turned themselves in and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.

Bond details were not released.
